Howl’s Moving Castle Tattoos A Tribute to Hayao Miyazaki’s Genius
Howl’s Moving Castle is a cinematic masterpiece in the world of animation. It features a story of love between characters Sophie, an 18-year-old pastry chef (who later becomes trapped in a woman’s body), and Howl, a magician. The film revolves around Sophie as she steps out of her hum-drum life and gains confidence over the course of the film to do the right thing and protect those around her, falling in love in the process.
Over time the chemistry and love between the two titular characters becomes palpable. As the movie goes on we see how much the two characters rely on one another and develop a fondness that grows into something larger over time. In fact, their romance blooms even when Sophie finds herself trapped in an old woman’s body.
While the film does a fantastic job of depicting the beauty of the two characters’ chemistry it is also about the charms of growing older and seeing through the negatives. It talks about the benefits of taking a break. The movie tells the audience that your “limitations” should not limit you from doing the right thing and exploring something new. Because although Sophie is trapped in an old woman’s physique she makes use of courage to try to end wats between both the countries. This encourages viewers to live life and enjoy it till the very end.
Howl’s Moving Castle Designs You Need To GET
Tattoos play a a huge role in shaping a person’s personality day-to-day. Sometimes if you want to get to know a person and who they are then you NEED to check out their ink. You can tell a lot about a person through their tattoos. They can also act as a sort of encouragement to do something. Howl’s Moving Castle is a graceful film that is a gorgeous amalgamation of colors that bring every piece of animation to life, whether it is the food, the scenery, the weapons, the dresses, the animals, etc. The clumsy yet visually beguiling segments of the movie hook the viewers in.
Howl’s Moving Castle Tattoo – Calcifer
While Calcifer is not the titular character of the film, it certainly plays a pivotal role in the story. His “skin” is bright orange with hues of red. He is known for his loyalty and generosity throughout the movie. If this is your character trait then certainly do consider combining the Calcifer tattoo with other characters such as Sophie or Howl. This will add depth to the tattoo showcasing the characters that Calcifer is loyal.
One of the best things about tattoos inspired by movies or series is that you can easily add depth to them by painting a scene from the movie or by sketching another character to show the interaction between two characters.
You can ink Calcifer on your wrist or your neck if you want to paint him solo. Since he is tiny, he would work great as a minimalist tattoo.
Turnip Head Howl’s Moving Castle Tattoo
At first, Turnip-head might look like he has been placed in the movie as a comic relief, however we later come to know he has a significant role to play. While Turnip-head works for the Witch in the book and is the reason for Sophie’s transformation from a young to an old woman, he is also more of a sidekick to Sophie in the film. He protects and looks out for Sophie in the movie. In the end, he is revealed to be the Prince, around whom the war was centered, because of Sophie’s kiss. This is the True Love’s Kiss that was needed to revive the Prince’s character back to his human form. Near the end of the film, Turnip-head saves Sophie and the other characters from falling off the kiss, prompting her to kiss him.
So if you are as kind and, misunderstood, as a Turnip-head was, then you can opt for this character as your tattoo muse. A slim character, Turnip-head’s ink can be placed anywhere upon the body, leaving it up to you to decide whether you want to keep that tattoo intimate to you or show it off.
Sophie Howl’s Moving Castle Tattoo
Sophie is our eyes, ears, and nose in the film. She is the titular character of the film who breaks out of her mundane life to go on a quest to save her country and the people she loves. Although Sophie is pretty pessimistic in the beginning she becomes more hopeful and courageous as the story progresses. Though she is transformed into an old woman physically, she does not let these limitations stop her from protecting those she cares about. She takes risks and strategizes to not only save Howl but countless others trapped in a devious war.
Because we see Sophie in two different conditions, as an 18-year-old and much older, you can choose which Sophie you want to tattoo. However, there are more variations to Sophie. We see a brown-haired, cynical Sophie in the beginning. Then we see an older Sophie in the middle of the story figuring out her life’s purpose and battling against all odds to do right by herself and others, and in the end we see the young Sophie again but with grey hair, symbolizing the battle she went through and her victory in it.
While Sophie is great as a standalone character, many love to pair her with other characters such as Howl, Calcifer, or Turnip-head. Some also like to ink her as she is standing up to the Witch. Different characters symbolize different modes of Sophie, love, friendship, gratefulness, care, and bravery.
Howl Pendragon Howl’s Movings Castle Tattoo
Pendragon is the second most important character, after Sophie, in the book and the novel. Though in the beginning of the story, we find Howl to be selfish and short-tempered, he eventually starts to soften up and treats others around him with kindness and love. He starts to appreciate all the support he has around him and his demeanor takes a turn for the best. Over time he also changes his hair from platinum blonde to black to showcase a more down-to-earth outlook on life.
While you can get a Howl tattoo separately, it would be best to pair him up with characters like Sophie and Calcifer. Sophie plays a pivotal role in his life and his personality, with the both of them eventually falling in love with one another. Hence she definitely deserves a place with Howl on the mantle.
The Moving Castle Tattoo
Howl’s Moving Castle is a character in itself. In fact, we dare say that it is more of an icon of the film than any of its characters. The castle’s design and personality are both incredibly unique. It is more of a combination of a junkyard, a castle, and an animal. While it is a complicated design to get down, with a bit of patience you can have a gorgeous tattoo on your hands.
In Conclusion
Howl’s Moving Castle is a rich story with a wholesome vibe and loveable characters. The story is filled with messages of wisdom and bravery that will definitely work well as a tattoo design.
